Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

Christmas morning was quiet and as my kids watched the Christmas cartoons on TV, I sat down with a cup of coffee, a pencil and a drawing pad and reflected on the year that will soon come to an end.  I've always loved the number '12' so I just knew that 2012 would be a good year.  And indeed it was.  This little drawing shows just a fraction of what I loved about this year.

Looking forward to 2013.  Thirteen is a good number, right?!

Slippurinn

Slippurinn, Reykjavík - Oil on canvas

One of the happy discoveries I made when I moved back home and saw Reykjavík  again with what felt like a brand new set of eyes, was this corner here of Geirsgata and Ægisgata.  When driving West Geirsgata you almost feel like you are about to drive into a ship.  It's a bit surreal really.  This is where ships rest on a slipway while they're being repaired or repainted  Luckily there was a beautiful red ship at the slipway when I shot the reference photo, which I've been craving to paint for months.
