It's time to celebrate Ash Wednesday here in Iceland! Tomorrow the schools and the shopping streets will be filled with kids in costumes, singing for candy, beating on the piñatas (we call it hitting the cat from the barrel, ..I know, what an odd thing to say! But no worries, there is no cat in the barrel, just candy)!

Illustration Friday - Swarm

Friday comes late this week, it's Wednesday already! Wasn't sure if I'd have the time to do this one since I've been busy lately moving my studio. But the topic was just so sweet, so this drawing appeared on my sketchbook late last night.

Illustration Friday - Sweater

"They both wanted to wear the same sweater - at the same time..."

Why this was the first thing I thought of when I decided to illustrate this topic, I don't know...maybe because I have two younger sisters? ;)

My 2 year old daughter, Lára Rún and I walked around town the other day when her preschool was closed. We fed the ducks and walked into a café in the freezing cold morning air and just had to have some hot chocolate,...and of course you don't just drink the chocolate when you have a straw to make bubbles with :)

Illustration Friday - Dusty

Every Friday at noon I get an email from Illustration Friday with the topic of the week to illustrate. Every Friday I plan to make an illustration for this topic, but every Friday just flies away and I end up with something totally different on my drawing table. But this week I submitted my first post, and certainly not the last.

Happy 2011 everyone!!! 2010 was an eventful year and I'm excited to see what 2011 beholds.

I recently illustrated 5 New Years Poems and these are three of those illustrations. In Iceland we (well, some of us) believe that something magical happens on New Years day and also on the thirteenth day after Christmas. Elves and fairies honor us with their presence those days and celebrate with us.
